YOGART STUDIO :: My MISFIT Inspiration
My inspiration is Amber Joliat, owner of MISFITSTUDIO.
You may know Amber as one of the five “POWER HOUSES…who are helping Canadians rethink the way we eat, move and live” highlighted in last November’s 35th Anniversary edition of FASHION Magazine. In addition to inspiring people across the country, Amber’s infectiously positive disposition and unique approach and style of teaching has landed MISFITSTUDIO on blogTO’s list of the TOP 10 yoga studio’s in Toronto for the last 2 years in a row. MISFITSTUDIO’s philosophy is a person whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others and Amber has definitely been the living embodiment of that belief.
I first met Amber 5 years ago at a Queen West studio where she taught her infamous FUSION (yoga fused with Pilates)classes. Before taking Amber’s class I wasn’t convinced that yoga was for me. I had previously taken a handful of classes that I (kind of) enjoyed but when 3 of my good girlfriends swore by Amber’s class assuring me, “no seriously, it’ll change your life” I was excited to try it out. With only 15 minutes into the class I distinctly recall feeling like my body was going to give out. It was challenging yet restoring, but most of all, inspiring. With the help of her arresting playlist and her magical ability to guide ALL of her students (in spite of everyone’s varying individual fitness levels) I made it through the class. I joined Amber’s loyal following of students and throughout the next several months, before I even knew what hit me, I began to crave yoga. I realized that with the guidance of an inspiring teacher, I was capable of feeling in control of my health and wellness. My only regret was that I had not recognized this skill earlier in life.
When Amber opened the doors to MISFITSTUDIO’s intimate Parkdale location in 2010, her loyal and dedicated community of Misfits followed. Shortly thereafter, MISFITSTUDIO expanded to their larger and current location on Queen West (and Euclid) fortified with a crew of charmed teachers and offering a variety of classes. Since yogic learning never ends, you can always find me at MISFITSTUDIO taking my practice even further -I’m a Misfit for life.
